While on a trip to India to learn about economic developments, @IMFnews colleagues visited #Odisha’s craft museum @kalahoomibbsr—a world-class set up that shows how art is an integral part of the regional culture.
The museum celebrates the craftsmanship of our artisans by putting on display their breath-taking masterpieces. Divided into 2 blocks, the museum has a display area and a live section. The display area focuses on galleries about Handicrafts and Handlooms from around the state while the live section is equipped with an open air theatre as well as separate workshop zones. Kalabhoomi is built using local raw materials such as the laterite stone which can still be seen in some of the oldest monuments around the state.
ExploreAt Kala Bhoomi we aspire to be more than simply a collection of unique objects. Museum trails are an important activity to create awareness among people about the history and culture of Odisha. Through a museum trail association with available historic settlements and environment can be developed. It motivates tourists, and local population to visit rich cultural/ archaeological/ architectural sites. These experiences also have the capacity to sensitize local populations and in turn to preserve and conserve their own culture and heritage. Through this, a sense of pride is inculcated and people start appreciating their heritage. Museum trails are also one of the mediums to initiate community based efforts for conservation and preservation of heritage, art and crafts.
Engage, discuss, ponder: museum's crafts inspire thought-provoking conversations and connections.
